The Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Foundation and the Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (SSAI) Research Committee announces:
A new post-doctoral grant program for 2026 – 2027 which will provide 50% research time each year for 2 years (salary to the clinical department) for a clinician who recently completed their research training (PhD granted within the last 5 years). Support will be for 2 years, half-time, in a clinical post-doctoral setting within the applicant’s own department. There will be 1 grant award for this period.
· Priority will be given to applications for projects within Anaesthesiology/Intensive care medicine/Pain medicine/Acute or emergency medicine and/or related subject areas.
· Priority will be given to projects that involve more than one Nordic country.
· Priority will be given to projects that demonstrate research collaboration between more than one university and research group.
· Priority will be given to applicants who can be clinically active (part-time) during the period.
Applicants must be members of the SSAI (and members of their own national society). Applications need to include a complete applicant information form, a curriculum vitae, a brief non-technical summary of the research project (not more than 400 words), and a research program presentation (not more than 8 A4 pages), and last a brief letter of support from the applicant’s clinical department demonstrating that the department will help implement this grant if conferred to its department member. Ideally, all these elements will be combined in one pdf document. The research program should clearly identify which activities and goals the applicant anticipates they will achieve during the post-doc period. The application form should be signed by the applicant’s clinical head of department, confirming a commitment of 50% time off for research.
This should be submitted to the SSAI Research Committee no later than September 20, 2025 to (michael.haney@umu.se).
The review and ranking of applications will be conducted independently by the SSAI Research Committee, together with further qualified representatives chosen by the Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Foundation. Assessors with conflicts of interests for an applicant or department will not review and rank that specific application.
Applications will be ranked based on the following criteria:
· general scientific quality of the research program
· new thinking and originality
· methodological competence
· feasibility
· possibilities for Nordic research collaboration
